Angry Grandma and Sweetest Grandmas
What is up ya'll! Hope everyone is alive and well! The sun has been shining over the island all week! What a blessing!
Monday- PDay!!!
This Pday was absolutely amazing! A sister in our ward, Sister Picknil, took me and Sister Olander on a drive around the whole island!!! It was so so beautiful! We went to a couple of beaches, the last windmill on the island, a WWII military fort, the smallest church in Europe, and the Needles! Sister Picknil is the sweetest grandma ever! She is from Scotland and drove us around in her little blue convertible!
Had dinner with Dennis and some other ladies in our ward! Dennis is the sweetest little grandpa ever! I just love him! He always feeds us a lot and this time he sent us home with a big chocolate cake and deli meat haha!
Tuesday-
We met our friend Thomas! Thomas requested a Book of Mormon last week and we finally found a time to meet with him! He just moved back to England from Spain and is exploring religion. He was so into the lesson and loved learning about it! This was my first lesson with someone who knew nothing about the Church which was so cool! Thomas is also wanting to come to church! How amazing is that!!!??!!
Wednesday-
I had interviews with my mission president and his wife! We also had district council!
We got to take a ferry and a train again! Sister Olander and I are still pretty confused about how the trains work and we definitely thought we were going to get lost, but then a miracle happened! We ran into the rest of the district! They were supposed to be on a different train, but they missed it haha! If it was not for them we definitely would not have made it!
My first interviews went pretty good! I sat down and the first thing my president said to me was, "So what's this about your ankles?" Busted. I just told him that I was fine and that people's salvation and happiness can't wait for my ankles haha! President Hinckley's father said to "forget yourself and go to work"... so I did!!! President Gallacher said that I "concern and scare" him haha! But he is grateful for how hard I am working and for my positive attitude!
District council was amazing as always! President got us all some root beer, but we needed a bottle opener to open them... Some of the Elders figured out how to use the edge of a table to open it, so I thought I would give it a try... I placed the bottle against the table and I smacked it with my hand... it was so LOUD! And it still wasn't opened haha! I guess I was just supposed to wiggle the lid off by using the table... whoops. When I did that the soda EXPLODED EVERYWHERE! Not embarrassing at all haha! I'm glad that I am the main entertainment for the district haha
Thursday-
Sister Olander and I were not feeling very well, but that does not stop the Lord's work! I was doing some Facebook work and I messaged a guy named Joe. He was super into it and loved learning about how we can be with our families forever! He wanted to learn more so we taught him about the origin of the church! And guess what! He wants to learn more! So excited!
Sister Gallacher had us buy some salts for my ankles. So during additional study we soak our feet haha!
Friday-
Sister Olander lost her voice! So I did most of the tracting. It was pretty cool! We went to a house that told us to come back, but sadly they were not home. Lucky for Sister Olander and I, their very cranky old lady neighbor was. Oh joy. She was letting us have it!!! "We don't want you here!!! No one wants you here!!! What you are doing should be illegal!!!" And more things I will never repeat... Sister Olander just looked at her and said, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but people need us here." Mic Drop. Not going to lie, it got me pretty down and I wanted to just cry in the middle of the street. Sister Olander had us stop, pray, and share a short testimony. It definitely lifted my spirits! I was pondering what the angry lady had said to us. She said that no one wants us here, she is wrong. God wants us here, and that is the only thing that matters!!!
After that experience, we had dinner with the Palomos again! I love them so much! Especially their grandma who is visiting from Spain! She always gives us the sweetest hugs and the BEST food! The Palomos had their cousins over who are 8 and 5. They are not members of the church so it was really cool explaining what baptism was to them! Now I am best friends with both of them haha! They are just the cutest!!!
Saturday-
Volunteered at Park Run again! Everyone loves the missionaries there! It is such a nice change from being avoided in the street to a place where people look forward to seeing you haha!
We taught this really sweet mom and daughter named Linda and Carrie! They just moved from South Africa and love God so much! They have not found a church on the island so that is why they contacted us! They were both so sweet and it was so cool to have them explain how they noticed the spirit being gone since they haven't been going to church. So we invited them to come to church with us!
We had lunch with a couple of members whose spouses have all passed on. Sister Finch, Lis, Nevil, and Dennis. Really amazing food! Sister Finch is VERY proper so I was trying extra hard to be on my best behavior and have amazing manners... Sister Finch said, "Why do Americans always have their fork and knife separated when they are done eating?? It is very bad manners and very impolite." Dang it... haha! The rest of the meal was very great! We talked about music and Sister Finch asked me to sing a musical number in a couple of weeks... pray for me.
Sunday-
Linda, Carrie, and Gertrude came to church! I hope church was good for Linda and Carrie! Everyone in the ward was very kind to them which was so nice!
We did some tracting and everyone thought we were Jehovah Witnesses haha!
I love you all so much and I hope ya'll have an amazing week! And Jesus loves you too!!!
<3 Sister Hope
